Scotwood’s £2M start to 50th anniversary year

Today (11 April 2014), Scotwood celebrates its 50th anniversary in business with £2m worth of new work in its first quarter.

A team from its 40 employees was present as the company launched its new brand logo and also showed off a massive 3-dimensional ‘Big 50 Piggy Bank’ designed to collect money raised by the company’s charity work throughout 2014 – all to mark the milestone year.

Founded 50 years ago on 11 April 1964 by Allan J. Scott, Scotwood has become one of Scotland’s leading specialists in office design and refurbishment providing fresh and innovative design ideas specifically for commercial and industrial sectors.

Recent projects include a contemporary look for the new Skyscanner offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, a complete re-design of Harper MacLeod’s offices as they gear up to be one of the sponsors of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the build of the Cumbernauld-based studio where American TV-series Outlander was filmed, and new business includes a green office build for American software company BlackBaud as they expand to Scotland.

Scott retired as Chairman of Scotwood at the end of December 2000 and control of the company went to Joint Managing Directors, his son, Jim Scott and Douglas Kerr. With a staff turnover rate of less than 2%, Scotwood truly is the definition of a successful happy family business.

Jim Scott, Joint Managing Director said: “This is a very exciting year for Scotwood. Our 50th anniversary is the chance to re-vamp the look and feel of the business to become more contemporary, reflecting our new work. We intend to celebrate the history of the company with the staff, and look forward to the next 50 years with a new brand look and a wealth of interesting new projects.”

Scotwood is hosting a charity dinner in May and is organising a charity walk with suppliers, partners and staff in June 2014, with all of the proceeds going to Erskine Hospital, MS Society Scotland and Epilepsy Scotland.

Douglas Kerr, Joint Managing Director, who has just celebrated his own personal 50th birthday this week, added: “Not only is this an exciting year for Scotwood, there is so much going on in Glasgow in 2014, and we intend to get involved with this through a Commonwealth Games-themed charity walk. Our ethos is about family, caring and contributing to the community. As we celebrate 50 successful years of business, we really want to give something back. ”

The new brand, while sticking to the traditional orange and black Scotwood colours, introduces a more contemporary design that will be rolled out across company uniforms, vehicle livery, promotional materials and the website. In addition, a new sign with the fresh branding has been revealed today at the head office in East Kilbride.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Enterprise Services Committee, Councillor Chris Thompson, who launched Scotwood’s new look on its 50th anniversary and kindly donated the first £50 on behalf of the Council towards the Big 50 Charity Piggy Bank, said: “It is great to see a South Lanarkshire business thrive and continue to prosper through the changing economic times of five decades. Well done Scotwood!”
